"Vulnerable Patients in Acute Hospital" - a Clinical Ethics Project at the University Hospital Zurich

A new paper by Diana Staudacher, Settimio Monteverde, Tanja Krones, Ramona Odermatt, Nyle-Sven Werner, Gabi Brenner, Katja Bruni investigates the issue of patient fragility in acute settings. 

 

Vulnerable, but equal

Origin, age or cognitive impairment should not be an obstacle to quality hospital treatment. However, the reality is often different. Due to special needs, some groups of patients may be particularly vulnerable in acute hospitals. 
What does equal health opportunity mean for these patients? And how can professionals identify and address the needs of vulnerable people?
