Ethics project in the NCCR Molecular Systems Engineering

Nikola Biller-Andorno is responsible for the ethics project of the NCCR (National Center of Competence in Research, funded by the SNF) Molecular Systems Engineering. This NCCR program started in July 2014 and is coordinated by the University of Basel and the ETHZ Basel Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering.

In this ethics project, IBME members will analyze ethical issues raised by specific scientific projects of the NCCR MolSystEng. Moreover, moral attitudes and concerns in the public relating to molecular systems engineering, nanotechnology and synthetic biology will be studied. Finally, the project includes ethical reflection on what fair and just public engagement processes and regulation of new forms of biotechnology could look like. These questions will be analyzed by Anna Deplazes Zemp, Christian Ineichen and Regula Ott at the IBME.
