Corine Mouton Dorey, Holger Baumann and Nikola Biller-Andorno have recently published an article on a qualitative research examining the ethical awareness of Swiss healthcare stakeholders for patient data and patient rights, in the journal BMC medical ethics.

The qualitative analysis indicates that healthcare professionals, health regulators and policy makers should be more ethically aware of a potential tension between public interest and patient rights regarding the collection and use of patient health-related data. Rather than setting public interest against patient rights, new ethical approaches would aim to strengthen both concurrently, advancing long-term sustainable cooperation.
