Reflections from Stehr-Boldt Fellows
1. Gemma García Calderó, Spain
PhD Candidate, Institute for Biomedical Ethics, University of Basel, Switzerland. Junior Stehr-Boldt Fellow between September and December 2022 «My fellowship at IBME was a precious occasion to ‘learn by doing’, because research requires trying many times and making mistakes until the scope and components of the research project are sufficiently and correctly refined. I had very little knowledge of systematic methods for searching the literature, and for this reason, I greatly appreciate the support I received from my colleagues. I am also very grateful for the helpful advice of my supervisor at IBME, who was always ready to give me feedback on my drafts.» |
2. Alice Cavolo, Italy
Postdoctoral researcher, Centre for Bioemdical Ethics and Law, KU Leuven, Belgium Senior Stehr-Boldt Fellow between September 2023 and August 2024 «My year as a Stehr-Boldt Fellow was one of the most inspiring and productive years of my academic career. The connections I made at and through the IBME resulted in academic collaborations, as well as strong and long-lasting friendships. The aspects I loved most were the opportunity to focus on my own project – a luxury in academia – and the freedom to shape it as I saw fit; the chance to discuss my research with colleagues and experts and gain new insights; the incredibly welcoming and collaborative research environment; and the access to seminars and lectures, which opened doors for networking and to start learning new topics.» |
3. Bjørn Hofmann, Norway
Professor, Centre for Medical Ethics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo and Department for Health Sciences, Norwegian University for Science and Technology, Gjøvik, Norway Senior Stehr-Boldt Fellow between January and April 2025 «At IBME I very much enjoyed the academic atmosphere, discussions with outstanding colleagues, but also excellent expertise at other parts of ETH and UZH including Collegium Helveticum. I would strongly recommend the Stehr-Boldt Fellowship as it provides a broad range of opportunities for transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration and opportunities for in-depth studies.» |
4. Prof. Dr. Peter F. Omonzeje, Nigeria
Professor at University of Benin, Benin-City, Nigeria Senior Stehr-Boldt Fellow between March and April, 2025 «I value the serene academic environment, engagements with colleagues, the conviviality of colleagues, and most especially the IBME research colloquium. This is the right place to develop and grow your bioethics ideas and write your academic essays. This is because you are almost certain to receive valuable feedback.» |
