The IBME is delighted to welcome Prof. Nancy S. Jecker (University of Washington) on September 15 as our distinguished guest for the next session of the Masterclass in Biomedical Ethics. Prof. Jecker is Professor of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine and former President of the International Association of Bioethics. Her research spans global bioethics, justice in health and healthcare, intergenerational ethics, personhood, and AI ethics, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan African and East Asian approaches. She has published over 200 articles and five books, including her most recent What is a Person? Untapped Insights from Africa (Oxford University Press, 2025).
The Masterclass is a forum where PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers present their ongoing work to a distinguished guest professor and receive substantive feedback on content and structure. Prof. Jecker will comment on two presentations of 25–30 minutes each.
