IBME hosts first bioethics workshop with colleagues from Kazakhstan

On 23 July 2022, the IBME has hosted its first workshop on “Bioethics Research and Practice in Western Countries and Central Asia – A Comparative Perspective”. The workshop brought together bioethics’ scholars from the IBME and other WHO Collaborating Centres for Bioethics with physicians from the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center (NRCSC) and professional officers and consultants from the WHO country office in Kazakhstan. Participants had the opportunity to exchange on ethical and legal issues in end-of-life care, particularly patient directives and triage, and public health policy, and to learn about the significantly different approaches to these topics in Western Europe and Central Asia. After an afternoon of lively exchange and discussions, the IBME is looking forward to the next workshop with our colleagues from Kazakhstan.
