Short bio

Daniel Lis studied Jewish Studies, Social Anthropology and Modern History at the Universities of Bern, Basel, London and Tel Aviv and received his PhD in Jewish Studies from the University of Basel. Since 2018 he has worked at the IBME as a Post Doc in the NFP 76 (welfare and coercion) subproject «Genesis and Impact of psychiatric expertise on child placement 1921-1974». From 2016-2017 he worked as an interviewer, deputy general secretary and deputy research head for the Independent Expert Commission (IEC) on administrative detention. Besides his activity at the IBME he works as a forest gardener at the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences  (BFH-HAFL) in Zollikofen, as well as a permaculture collaborator at the HOF3 (http://www.hof3.ch/permakultur/) in Trubschachen, Emmental.

Ongoing Projects

 NFP 76 (welfare and coercion) subproject «Genesis and Impact of psychiatric expertise on child placement 1921-1974». Within this project, he investigates the impact of expertise processes and resulting scientific expertise on the construction of identity and biography of examined children and adolescents.
