Short Bio

Sophie Gloeckler graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude with a BA from Columbia University before completing her DNP there and becoming a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She also holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine, University of Zurich. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honors Society and was awarded a Fulbright in 2019 for research exploring ethical questions related to assisted suicide and palliative care in cases of severe persistent mental illness. She is a practicing clinician with RIVIA Mind Medical Center in New York. Sophie’s PhD work focused on
treatment decision-making and respect for autonomy in the face of severe illness in contemporary clinical settings. Her present postdoctoral work further explores questions of autonomy in such settings with an emphasis on the ethical use of digital technology.
