I studied medicine, anaesthesiology, and bioethics at the Catholic University of Chile. Trying to integrate my theoretical bioethics training with the more practical activity I perform as an anaesthesiologist, I became a member of my hospital’s Research Ethics Committee and I had some experiences of international collaboration. Through these experiences, the extent of health inequities worldwide and their impact on how patients and their families make decisions about their health became extremely palpable. Since 2012 I’m Ph.D. student at the IBME. I would like to investigate in how the social determinants of health and the disease itself can undermine an individual's agency, and how we might empower vulnerable populations.
