Listing and delisting dilemmas in liver transplantation

This topic has directly resulted from clinical ethics cases in Liver Transplantation and a fruitful reflection resulting from the Harvard Clinical ethics courses in which the Visceral surgical Unit participated. In an intense exchange among our groups  we reflected upon the concept of futility in Patients “on the waiting list”, also resulting in a systematic review of factors with a key impact on prognosis in Liver transplantation and a highly cited  empirical-normative review paper, published in the Journal of Hepatology (Linecker et al 2018). Potentially inappropriate liver transplantation in the era of the “sickest first” policy – A search for the upper limits.

A research grant on a subsequent international factorial survey is in preparation
