Subproject D (Health Services Research I)

The impact of the implementation of the DRG system in Switzerland on evidence-based treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction

The reseacher team of the AMIS Plus Data Center of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Zurich will assess the impact of the implementation of the DRG system in Switzerland on compliance to evidence-based medicine guidelines in the management of patients with acute myocardial infarction and their outcomes. The project will draw on the AMIS Plus data analyses, which provide a unique opportunity to monitor care of patients in general or of specific groups of patients. Participating centres will provide data for each patient through a standardised internet or paper questionnaire. For the purposes of the subproject, patients enrolled in the AMIS Plus Registry 1 to 2 years before introduction of the DRG system in Switzerland will be compared with patients enrolled 1 year after implementation of the DRG system. With a view to future monitoring the subproject will also include methodological considerations regarding items of ethical or legal relevance that could be added to the standardized questionnaire for AMIS Plus or other pertinent databases.
